Johanna Zimmer was born in Backnang and received early piano lessons, organ lessons and singing lessons with her mother Rita Zimmer. In 2001 she began a church music study at the state college for music and showing art Stuttgart which she finished in 2008 with the A certificate.
In parallel in addition she took up in summer, 2005 a song study with Prof. Ulrike Sonntag which she continued later with Prof. Renée Morloc (song) and Marie Helle (scenic representation) and concluded in 2012 with the concert exam. She received other artistic impulses with master courses from Edith Wiens and Dunja Vejzovic.
As a soloist in the oratorischen area it was to be heard among other things with works from Bach, Händel, Mendelssohn, Brahms and Fauré, in the area of the new music she sang beside works about Arnold Schönberg, Helmut Lachenmann, George Crumb and Luigi Nono Uraufführungen of Mike Svoboda, Bernd Asmus and Axel Ruoff. The German première of the „Missa deodorant Gratias“ from Jean-Pierre Leguay was taped by the SWR.
As a member of ensemble v.act (management: Prof. Angelika Luz) was to be experienced they in various scenic projects with new vowel music, among other things as a Pierrot in „Pierrot lunaire – cabaret Voltaire“ in cooperation with the state opera Stuttgart. In autumn, 2009 she won with the song competition of the Lionsclubs Stuttgart-castle garden the 1st prize.
From 2011 to 2014 she was a member the SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart. Since autumn, 2014 she is a member of the Neue Vocalsolisten.
