La Philosophie dans le Boudoir
François Sarhan wrote the libretto for his musical theatre ‘Une Philosophie dans le Boudoir’, based on the novel of the same name by the Marquis de Sade, and created a highly artificial stage set in the form of a hanging paper sculpture.

In his multidisciplinary work, François Sarhan examines the clichéd nature of social conventions and the gestures of power from three perspectives, regardless of whether it is about lost utopias, republican ideologies or the cynicism of the business world.
The main theme of musical theatre is oppression. Pressure exerted on an individual by a group. Even more specifically: on a woman by a group of men. This general theme is developed in three different contexts: the world of the global players, the RAF trial against Ulrike Meinhof and de Sade’s ‘Philosophy in the Boudoir’. A plot in the form of a libretto is developed for each of these contexts.
